Questions

What parents ask us most

Do you take my insurance?

Flint is out of network with insurance plans, and many plans do not pay for testing done to answer a school question. We can give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) to send to your plan. Your plan decides what it pays, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

What is a superbill, and can I use it?

A superbill is an itemized receipt that you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code if the report gives one, and your plan sees it. Your plan may reimburse part of the fee, and it decides what it pays; reimbursement is not guaranteed. We give you one on request.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of the cost before you start. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract. We give you one at the end of the parent interview.

How much does testing cost, and how do fees work?

Testing is one fee for the whole evaluation, set by your child's questions and age, and you have it in writing before you start. How fees work explains what is included, the reduced-fee spots and the estimate.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Often, yes. A health savings or flexible spending card works where your plan allows it for this kind of evaluation. Check with your plan administrator, and we will give you a receipt.

What happens in the first session?

A parent interview of about an hour, without your child. You talk through your child's history and your questions, and you leave with a plan for testing and a written estimate.

How long does an evaluation take?

A parent interview, then testing visits sized to your child's age and stamina, then a feedback visit. Dr. Paschal sets the plan after the interview and gives you the schedule in writing.

Is Dr. Paschal licensed where I live?

Dr. Paschal is a licensed psychologist in Kentucky. In-person visits are in Lexington. Feedback visits by video are for families in Kentucky during the visit.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, any time. In an emergency, call 911. Flint is not a crisis service, and this site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.

What is private, and what are the limits?

What you and your child tell Dr. Paschal stays in the practice's records. He shares it only with people you name in a signed release, or as the law requires, for example when someone is in danger. He explains the limits at the first session.

Who gives consent for my child's evaluation?

A parent or legal guardian gives consent in writing before testing starts. Dr. Paschal explains the evaluation to your child in plain words and asks for their cooperation, and a child can say when they need a break. If you share custody, tell us at the first session who can sign.

What is your cancellation policy?

Your fee letter says how much notice we ask for and what happens if a visit is missed. We go through it with you before you start, and a sick child is never a problem.

Something we didn't answer?

Write or call. Dr. Paschal replies himself.
